Why you need regular Eye Exams... What
will the exam involve? All adult eye examinations at Elmsdale Vision Centre include the following steps: 1.) Case History: Your Doctor will begin the eye examination with a detailed record of any specific eye symptoms or problems
you may be experiencing. This will be followed by a detailed history of your ocular and general medical health and a review
of any specific visual demands that you may have. 2.) Visual
Acuity:This is an assessment of the current quality of your vision performed by asking you to read eye
charts at both distance and close up.
3.) Eye Muscle Balance and Coordination Testing:This
includes an evaluation of how well the six muscles that control the eyes working together as well as neurological testing
of the three cranial nerves that position the eyes correctly to give you comfortable vision. 5.) External and Internal Eye Health Assessment:The doctor will use a slit lamp biomicroscope and various high powered
lenses to thoroughly examine the health of your eyelids, corneas (the clear front surface of the eye), pupils, retinas (light
sensitive tissue at the back of the eye) and optic nerve (the connection which sends information from your eye to your brain. 6.) Tonometry: This is a measure of the pressure inside
the eyeball (known as the intraocular pressure or IOP. It is one of the tests done for glaucoma.
7.) Discussions:
After the examination is completed your Doctor will take the time to explain all the results to you so that you leave our
office with a complete understanding of your eye health and vision. This includes recommendations for keeping your eyes healthy
and a detailed discussion of the best correction for you, weather that is single vision eyeglassess, progressive multifocals,
contact lenses or perhaps even laser eye surgery.
